CANADIAN MARITIMES IFR

CAMARI for Web

OVERVIEW:

The CAMARI is a three day trip that almost guarantees some IMC conditions. The first day has the same itinerary as the “The ‘Narly New England , IFR” flying north up the New England coast to Bangor, ME. The second day heads to northern Maine before crossing the border into New Brunswick and ending up in Sydney, Nova Scotia. The last day flies across Nova Scotia, into New Brunswick and clearing customs in Bangor before heading back to where we started at 1B1.

FOR WHOM IS IT DESIGNED?

This course is designed as a refresher course for already rated pilots (although IFR students may certainly take it as well) and serves as an excellent IPC (Instrument Proficiency Check). The total flying time averages 18 hours and 17 approaches will be flown, both precision and non-precision.Approaches will include ILS, LOC, VOR, PAR, and RNAV.

You will need your passport for this trip, and if flying in your own airplane you will need to have registered with US Customs and Border Patrol, and have a current stamp displayed on your airplane.

Pilots that are insured by Avemco Insurance Company will qualify for a 5% discount on their premiums upon completion of this trip.

THE ITINERARY:

DAY ONE: Starting from The Columbia County Airport (1B1), we fly south to Islip on Long Island and from there, north up the coast, with stops at Norwood, MA, Portsmouth, NH, Rockland, and Bar Harbor, ending the day in Bangor, ME. The chance for a maritime layer gracing the Maine coast is always possible.

DAY TWO: We start the day flying north to Caribou and Presque Isle, Maine before crossing the border and clearing Canadian Customs in St. John, New Brunswick. From there we’ll head east and land at Charlottesville on Prince Edward Island, before ending the day at Sydney, Nova Scotia. It is not uncommon to find LIFR conditions not only in northern Maine, but quite often in the Canadian Maritimes. You will want to be sure your pitot heat is working before departure on this day.

DAY THREE: Before heading back to the USA we’ll fly to Halifax, NS, and Frederickton, NB, where we will file our ADCUS flight plan back to Bangor, ME to clear US customs. From there we’ll fly approaches at Laconia, NH and Bennington, VT before getting back to 1B1 where the trip started.
